Damage Deposit

I stayed in an apartment via booking.com during the last bank holiday... I paid £100 damage deposit as requested but only received £86 back after check out.

They claimed I lost a fork and chipped a bowl which is absolute rubbish. We ate one meal in the apartment which was sandwiches and crisps. In total I used 2x glasses, 2x small side plates, 2x cups and a spoon which were washed and left on the drying rack prior to check out.

I have argued they are wrong but the company that owns the apartment are refusing to back down. I would have absolutely no issue in them taking the money had I actually damaged anything but I haven't so I'm now down £14 because of someone else. It really pisses me off that they aren't even prepared to compromise or actually admit they are wrong.

Is there anything I can do?

Ask them to prove photographic proof of inventory pre your stay is only thing I can think of?
