Caravan ownership

Thinking of buying a static Caravan on a site for regular get aways and renting to family and friends etc, but trying to weigh up pros and cons, as well as yearly expense regarding ground rent and gas etc. Thinking around Brean location, as it's only 2 hours max from where we live.
For those of you that own caravans in the UK, do you find it a hindrance or is it the best decision you ever made?

look at depreciation.
Its much cheaper to have a big touring caravan on a seasonal pitch as you have more control, many sites only allowed certain ages of caravan and have some control of sales etc

A friend of mine had a van for a few years, renting never quite covered the annual costs of it, despite it being on a busy haven site. You also have the hassle of having to go to it after every stay to clean and make sure all is ok.
