LetMeJustCheckMyCitrusPocket · 19/04/2023 11:11

Looking for any accommodation recommendations in London Battersea area or nearby? Anything considered...hotel, BnB, apartment etc. For mid August so getting desperate!

Thanks in advance for any tips/advice🙂

Mid August is ages away! What seems to be the problem?

What have you tried so far? Airbnb, hotel aggregator sites ? Are you finding that everything is full?

Battersea is now on the tube which will widen your options. Also lots of buses and trains, or you could walk across the river.

SquirmOfEels · 19/04/2023 11:34

I'm assuming you've tried the places like Holiday Inn, Wandsworth and the Clapham Junction Travelodge?

The Wandsworth Road Premier Inn is a couple of hundred metres into Lambeth, so might not show on Battersea/Wandsworth searches, but is still a good location. Ditto the hotels just by Clapham South tube station (Euro Hotel and Clapham South Hotel)

The Windmill on Clapham Common has rooms.

There's a brand new hotel in Battersea Power Station, but I think it's £££

Never been inside, but the Lavender Guest House on Lavender Sweep is v close to Battersea Rise and St John's Road

Thanks for both your responses...I know it's early yet to find something but I'm not familiar with the area at all, will keep looking 🙂

I’m staying in Battersea next weekend
I may therefore recommend or not recommend an AirBnB

FlounderingFruitcake · 20/04/2023 17:13

Is there a problem finding or are you just after general recommendations? Money no object stay in the new hotel in the power station. Mid range, the windmill on clapham common is lovely. If you want a travellodge there’s a convenient one right near Clapham Junction, and one just behind the river that’s likely to be cheaper.

FlounderingFruitcake · 20/04/2023 17:20

Also where in Battersea? It’s massive plus not to mention that what a lot of people think is Clapham is actually Battersea. So there’s no point getting an Air BnB between the commons if you actually want to be at the power station and finding it’s an hours walk or 2 buses to get there.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 20/04/2023 20:48

It's on the Northern Line, so you could always stay in Kings Cross/Euston or Islington, if you can't find anywhere in Battersea. Or I think there's either a Travelodge or Premier Inn there, if not both.

Worth mentioning that not all of Battersea is within reasonable walking distance from the northern line.

Where do you need to be?

LetMeJustCheckMyCitrusPocket · 21/04/2023 13:04

Thanks for all your comments. We need to be on both sides of the river at different times, in Pimlico first and then in Battersea Park afterwards. Don't know this area at all and hadn't realised it was so big!

I've looked at Premier Inn/Travelodge etc and will probably end up trying for those but originally posted just in case anyone knew of anywhere a bit different...@tommika I'd be interested to hear about your air bnb!

The new hotel at the power station looks amazing (that rooftop pool) but unfortunately we'd need to win the lottery for that.😁

Gotcha! In that case maybe try Pestana Chelsea Bridge. It’s next to Battersea Park and the power station so easy to cross over to Pimlico. It’s more lux than a Premier Inn but should be a fair bit cheaper than the new art’otel!

That area isn't big ...easily walkable. There's loads of hotels in Pimlico

Ah thanks, I did check it out as also thought could be good but unfortunately booked for our dates. Will keep trying. 🙂

@LetMeJustCheckMyCitrusPocket

I’ll now reveal the secrets of my stay…..

We were slightly worried that they may have been hedging their bets on booking prices as while I was awaiting confirmation there was another flat showing that looked similar with almost mirrored photos under a different name at a slightly higher price. (In messaging he confirmed it was his sister, and we think that they probably have two flats with the other being a reversed layout with the same furnishing)

We were just off Dagnall street, and if you look up AirBnBs in that area the bedroom side tables are lavender which is my friends least favourite colour.

It has a bedroom with double bed, lounge / kitchenette with corner sofa which pulls out to a double bed, or also could be used as a single bed plus kids bed if you don’t fully flip the pull out

It’s pleasant enough, a third floor flat with lift access (entry has a couple of steps so it’s not ideal for wheelchair users unless they can walk a little or be assisted up)
Checkin is self service with a secure key box outside - you get a photo and the code among the check in instructions

Kitchen essentials are there except for a microwave
It has a bath plus shower - which was a good hot & strong shower. There wasn’t a bath mat, so you need to avoid slipping - but there are many things in the cupboards so there could have been a bath mat stored away
The back balcony is shared with neighbouring flats and has a stairwell - so on a security basis don’t leave it open all day

The final bill breakdown was:

AirBnB £240 for two nights (Friday & Saturday)
Service fee £53.33
Cleaning fee £80
Just over £370 for two nights for the two of us, plus a base to ‘entertain’ 5 of us for dinner on Saturday night

It’s likely to be council/social flats, but nothing unpleasant. If there was any noise disturbance it was us talking most of the night

In the fridge freezer was some ice cream and an unopened jar of jam, we assume from previous residents - didn’t eat the ice cream but did have a jam sandwich
We left half a bag of oven chips

The gin & juice are mine

London Battersea accommodation?

We were at an event in Battersea park for the weekend.
I don’t know where, but the organisers had a full apartment almost on top of the park …. This would have been more pricey but was split among more of them
They had a two minute walk, ours was a twenty minute walk - but we were dropped off by van
I only walked from the venue to the flat for checkin …. And took about 45 minutes as I just strolled around the park taking photos

The other thing I forgot to mention was parking. The flat has a visitors Parking permit and there was enough street parking available
