Solo break London

I have decided to embrace my single life and stop living this weird half life!

so .. I have booked two nights in London (wild I know😂). I am travelling over from Ireland, staying in Covent Garden in June.

I have booked tickets for wicked for one night and a three hour bike tour for day one. What else??

I have been to london lots with work - have done the London eye, museums, palace etc.

maybe an afternoon walking round the fancy neighbourhoods in Chelsea? I would like to do something. A bit different - where I won’t stand out for being alone.

thank you!!!

I go to London a lot on my own. I like booking a fancy brunch and taking a book and sitting for a couple of hours reading and eating and having a nice glass of wine :)

Great idea! Any hotel recommendations?

I suppose Covent Garden is teaming with lively boutique hotels.

A half day pottering around Kings Cross/Coals Drop yard with the shops, canal, food market? It’s such a nice area and not really well known outside London I think.

A cinema visit maybe: Picturehouse Central is so nice!

oh and if it’s still showing, a ticket to see Operation Mincemeat Musical!!

Visit the British Library! (and have your book reading/ people watching lunch there.)

Kew Gardens? Would be great in June.
They have gigs in the summer so you might be able to catch one.
River cruise?

Fortnums wine bar (lower ground floor) is lovely for a glass of wine and nibbles but do book in advance. I like to wander around a museum or art gallery when I get chance to be alone.

Some wonderful suggestions here - I am googling now.

I hadn’t even thought of Kew Gardens - I am embarrassed to say I hadn’t realised it was in London!!!

Spitalfields is lovely, definitely worth a mooch around. Such a great vibe around there (country bumpkin visiting)

I did this last year and had a wonderful time. Can't wait to do it again!

I like to find an area and do a walk (buy a walking guide) - Bloomsbury is lovely for a wander around, or Battersea Power Station.

Kings Cross, the Wellcome Collection and the British Library for a nice couple of hours in one small area.

The Wolseley for afternoon tea or for a glass of wine.

Daunt Books for the most beautiful book shop in London and some other nice shops in the same area too.

River boat to Greenwich, wander round the market, walk around the park, go up to the viewpoint. Head to North Greenwich for the cable cars and a drink at the Oiler Bar in Royal Victoria Docks.

Go for a wander around one of the markets like Spitalfields, or Broadway Market and tag on London Fields.

Go for an outdoor swim at Royal Victoria or Canary Wharf - swimming with a view of the skyscrapers.

This is all brilliant - thank you all! I wish I had booked longer now! I could fill a week!!!

London Walks are good - there are lots to choose from and no one cares if you are ok your own. Also Treasure Trails have some good London trails. I also like getting the Uber Clipper Boat - Battersea Power Station in one direction, Greenwich the other way - both are lovely. Also I love the National Portrait Gallery and St James’s Park. The big Waterstones on Piccadilly is great too. the V&A has some good exhibitions at the moment and you can walk from there to Harrods - the food halls are amazing. Have a lovely time OP!

I love it - really love the buzz, much prefer it to a spa day.

Done a couple of solo trips now.
recommend the Z Hotel - Piccadilly or Covent Garden.

I usually on a 2 day trip do one museum and one theatre (evening). Light shopping. General wandering - maybe a park.

lots of stopping for coffee, glasses of wine etc. always have 2 good books with me for the journey and breaks.
last time I had lunch in John Lewis with a glass of fizz. Wandered round Fortnum and Masons.

next time I’m doing one of the London Underground behind the scene tours.

onepieceoflollipop · 11/04/2023 23:25

Oh yes I did one of those blue badge walks with a local tour guide I think that’s what they are called, we did the East End one just after the Olympics - fascinating.

Please don't worry about standing out for being on your own. I can assure you no one will neither notice nor care Smile

So much to see and do but you've had some good ideas up thread. London is a wonderful city just to walk around and soak up the atmosphere. If you do walk around remember to look up-lots of beautiful architecture to see.

Hope you have a great time.
