Any advice appreciated, I am flying to Edinburgh with my DD8. I understand there is a bus to the city centre and I am trying to book a hotel. Any recommendations please. Thank you.

Bus and tram both go to the city centre. What's your budget hotel-wise? So we know whether to recommend the Balmoral or an Ibis.
(I stayed in the Hilton Hampton recently and it was nice).

Trams & buses will take you straight into the centre from the airport.

Hotels depend totally on budget & time of year.

I recently atayed at the Frederick St Hotel and it was really decent and only c £60 a night.

Travelling in a few weeks which I know is disorganised! Ideally looking at £100-£150 per night. Thank you.

I am going through to Edinburgh next month and staying in the Holiday Inn next to the zoo as it has a pool for DC's, I was £136 per night, this is during the week. I am driving through however as I am from Glasgow.

If it’s Easter time you may struggle! Try the premier inns they are decent or the holiday inn mentioned above is nice & right beside a bus stop that goes into town in 15 mins.

LIZS · 26/03/2023 21:16

Either bus or tram into city centre from airport. There is a newish Premier Inn near St James Quarter on York Place, Marriot and Holiday Inn express on Leith Street near to the playhouse, Travelodge on Waterloo Place and a couple of 3* on Princes Street. Edinburgh prices tend to be high.

Goonergirl14 · 26/03/2023 21:28

As advised if it's Easter time you are going I would be booking now, just had a look at the Premier Inn for the dates I am going and there is availability at ones in the city centre and Leith in your budget, I don't think Leith is too far from the city centre. I usually go to the Premier Inn but thought it would be nice to have a pool for the DC's. I hope you get somewhere.

Have stayed at Motel one. Location is great - right next to Waverley.
Bus or tram to city center. Super easy.

Frozen9 · 26/03/2023 21:35

I’ve used the Travelodge at Edinburgh park. Quiet and tram stop outside that will take you easily in and out the centre

MissHoollie · 26/03/2023 21:36

Just stayed in the premier inn just off the royal mile. East something street !
So nice..clean..lovely staff and quiet .
Walkable distance everywhere .

LaviniasBigBloomers · 26/03/2023 21:41

There's a new Cityroomz at the west end of princes street that's usually super cheap, otherwise try Motel 1 or the Moxy. From the airport, the tram is super easy.

LIZS · 26/03/2023 21:55

Not sure the tram to Leith is yet operational. Can take half an hour by bus into the centre.

Kleptronic · 26/03/2023 22:01

Yeah the tram's not running yet from Leith and the bus does take half an hour. You can walk it in the same/less time.

Diorinthecountry · 26/03/2023 22:05

I would highly recommend the marriot Hotel beside the playhouse. Dh and I stayed there the other week and it was fantastic. Really central and we could walk everywhere.

Herbiefriel · 26/03/2023 22:13

We recently stayed in the Novotel in the city centre with our two boys, it was great. We'd previously stayed at the premier Inn which is right next door, but the Novotel was way better and same kind of price range. Also had a pool and the breakfast was epic, and if you're lucky with your room, a great view of the castle.

BeeBB · 26/03/2023 22:38

Apex in the grassmarket was nice a few years ago with a lovely view of the castle.

do you mean the premier inn?
the airlink 100 bus and the tram both take you from the airport to princes street. At the moment they are both terminating at St Andrews square. The bus is cheaper and often quicker than the tram although there are some hotels at Edinburgh park which are on the tram route and worth considering if you’re struggling to find accommodation. Note though that it’s a business park and there’s nothing really to do nearby.
I’d start by looking at premier inn for your travel dates and if they don’t come in on budget you’re probably going to struggle to find anything.

Riverlee · 28/03/2023 08:04

We’ve stayed at the Holiday Inn next to the zoo and always been happy with it. It’s not in central Edinburgh though.

Susue999 · 28/03/2023 11:44

Thank you everyone I’ve managed to book somewhere central. It was a last minute trip so next time I will have more time to organise. Thank you all.
