Looking for advice on the best way to get from Edinburgh airport to Grassmarket please (Saturday afternoon). No heavy suitcases, so fine with public transport.

The airport bus goes in to the city centre, stops just off Princes Street near the station. You could walk from there, crossing the road, heading east past the Scott Monument along to the National Gallery, take a left and go up the Playfair Steps, or a little bit further on, up The Mound. Just follow the street around and you hit the Royal Mile. Cross the road, over the right hand side of George IV bridge, turn down Victoria Street and at the bottom, you have reached your destination. It’s a very nice walk and the views from the steps/the Mound are terrific. 20 minutes should do it.

Either Airport Bus or Tram will do what you want with a 15m walk at the end to get you to Grassmarket.

The Citymapper App, which is excellent in London, also works in Edinburgh and is worth downloading to your phone.

The airlink 100 bus is cheaper than the tram and generally quicker outside of peak rush hour times so that usually gets my vote! You might be as quick to use the shandwick place / west end stop and head round to Lothian road then down Kings Stables Road to the grassmarket (it eliminates going up n down hill if nothing else)

Google maps will be fine.

And if this is in the near future…..check if it’s a day when there’s a 6 nations fixture at n at Murrayfield because the road that the Airlink bus runs along gets closed while folk walk to/from the stadium and the tram will be extra busy.

Thank you @emmathedilemma @midsomermurderess @macshoto - very helpful. Good tip about Murrayfield too! I must check the fixtures.

I'm looking forward to my first visit to Edinburgh. 😀
