City breaks UK

We have 4 days over half term and we want to have a 2/3 day city type break with ds(13).Not london as we live in Brighton adn go there regularly.Any ideas.We will probably go by train and want to be right in the centre wherever we go.Probably a bit of sightseeing shopping etc Liverpool?

Thanks some lovely hotels there too.Although dp still wants to go to london for a few days Will have to show him these later
