Cardiff hotels

Hi,

We're coming to Cardiff to see the university and need a budget hotel for 2, for a midweek night.

Ideally twin beds but not essential, parking would be good but not essential as we may come by train. Budget ideally no more than £100.

Any suggestions? I'm going around in circles on Trip Advisor!

Thanks

DP visits Cardiff Uni regularly for work and I sometimes go with him.

If you're visiting the university, it's probably easiest to stick to the city centre rather than the Bay which is a bus or train ride up to Cathays. I would recommend Hotel Indigo, the Hilton or Park Plaza for nearness to Uni but suspect parking is going to be a hassle.

If you want to bring your car, then the Bay might be easier as there are big hotels with carparks down there e.g. Future Inn which we were pretty happy with on our last trip.

Alternatively it looks like some of the smaller hotels and guest houses on Cathedral Road in Pontcanna have parking; Pontcanna is the "Hampstead of Cardiff" - very middle class and lovely, and it's a nice walk across the park to the university.

We spent a few days in the Sleepeze Hotel in Cardiff. I thought it was really good, great breakfast. Just opposite a car park, not included but the room was such good value it was fine. Very nice staff, clean. Not sure if they have twin rooms.

The Angel probably has the best central setting (between the castle and the stadium and a 10 minute stroll to the main campus) It has its own private parking too. It’s a lovely old traditional hotel, in need of a bit of TLC but visiting friends love staying there. It’s neither grand luxe nor premier inn/travelodge but is worth a look. Similar setting but more upmarket and very close private parking would be The Hilton.

Mercure Cardiff Holland House Hotel & Spa - especially if you can get an offer.
No parking but NCP’s very close.

Marriott Hotel - very central, ncp parking underneath (discounted via hotel checkout).

Ibis hotel city centre is very cheap - ncp carpark opposite. Definitely have twin/triple rooms - although they are quite compact.

You will struggle to get car parking with city centre hotels other than the ones mentioned by PP.

John Lewis carpark is the cheapest carpark in the city centre (I typically pay £18 for 24 hours compared to £25/30 in multistories)

Have you thought of looking at apartments? Booking.com have a few which typically are cheaper and often have parking.

The problem with Cardiff currently is that they have a lot of events and it generally makes hotel prices rocket.
