Weekend break for adults only

DH and I would like to have a weekend/long weekend away and leave the children at home :)

Trouble is, after years of organising family holidays with children in mind, I've absolutely no idea where to go!

Can anyone recommend a favourite location for a UK weekend break (adults only)?

Not been myself, but I fancy the Scarlet Hotel in Cornwall - it’s adults only!

Oxford is lovely, New Forest is nice. We like to go to London, book a show and a meal and stay in a central hotel.

Where are you based on how far are you willing to travel? There's no point us recommending somewhere 8 hours away or you'll spend all your time in the car.
Do you want city break or rural?

Thanks for the suggestions - definitely some things to look at!

Prepared to go anywhere really. If it's too far for a weekend, we might consider it for a week's break later on, once we've confirmed that the DC manage not to wreck the house without us there :)

Interested in both city and rural breaks. We used to do some hill walking pre-children but are probably both too unfit for that now, but some shorter / easier walks would definitely be something we'd enjoy. What we're not very good at is "mooching about" - we want a defined thing to go and see or do.
