London Train Strike help!

My husband is due to travel to a show on Wednesday 4th January from South Wales but the train/tube strikes look likely to mean he has to cancel. The tickets are sadly non refundable so we're trying to figure something else out that doesn't involve 10 buses taking 6 hours before he admits defeat.

He looked at driving but the congestion/ULEZ charge means it would cost way too much (old diesel car). Even if he drove into the outskirts before the charges, the options seem to be multiple long bus journeys. There are National Express/Megabus options but they only get into Victoria, and the timings are pretty awful, which would mean taxi/walking and it would be cutting it a bit fine.

If anyone is a London travel expert I would love to hear any thoughts before he gives up!

Most of the tube will be working as normal, so drive to one of the ends of the tube lines in the west, and take the tube in.

You can select the relevant 'Future Date' here tfl.gov.uk/tube-dlr-overground/status/ to see what will and won't be running
