What would you say is a reasonable price to pay for a holiday:

  • South/South West UK
  • August
  • 2 x Adults
  • 2 x Children (7 & 5)
  • 10 nights
  • Self Catering
  • transport not included (it'll cost all in about £100 in petrol for there and back and day trips).

Thanks for input!

I would expect* to spend £200-£300 per night for a 2 bedroom/one bathroom, self catering cottage in a touristy area of Devon or Cornwall in August.

So that would be £2000-£3000 for ten nights (Apart from many places are only let on a 7 night or 14 night basis so if you're insisting on 10 nights you might be limiting your options).

Super-luxurious and very close to the beach would cost more obviously, and equally you'd possibly pay a bit less if you were content to be in less desirable town or area away inland.

I don't know about caravan holidays; I always think they're expensive compared to having a cute cottage and garden all to yourself but then some people like access to a pool and entertainments so that has some value.

[*Apart from I wouldn't pay this because I can't afford it! This is why I don't holiday in Cornwall in August!].

Reasonable or expect to pay? Because the two don’t overlap in my experience. I’d think at least £2k for accommodation.
