Alternative to Gatwick Express

Hi,
We are coming down to London from Scotland at the beginning of January. We had planned on getting the Gatwick Express to where we are staying in Farringdon, however there’s a rail strike that day. Can anyone recommend an alternative? I was looking at National Express buses but not sure - any advice would be brilliant. Thanks!

Where are you travelling to and from? Gatwick to Farringdon?

Realistically your only option will be National Express to London Victoria and then the tube

Yes that’s right, we’re staying in the Premier Inn at Farringdon and flying into Gatwick. Thanks

Looks like Southern are running a limited service from Gatwick to London Bridge and Victoria.

They are still running trains from Gatwick into town during the strikes - we're on that line and they have continued, BUT they're later start and earlier finish, and I think they're only going to Victoria.

You can definitely get a coach from Gatwick to Victoria, but your onward journey might be a bit of a pain.

Thanks very much everyone ☺️

I think the OP means Thameslink, not Gatwick Express (which goes to Victoria).

It looks like some trains will be running, but the Thameslink service will terminate at London Bridge and not do the central section calling at Farringdon.

If you can get to London Bridge, I'd then get the Underground to St Paul's (Northern line to Bank, then Central line to St Paul's) and walk to the hotel from there. Or bus if you're feeling adventurous! The 521 goes from London Bridge station past St Paul's and Ludgate Hill - get off at the City Thameslink station bus stop and it's a short walk to the hotel.

Oops, I got the street names mixed up. The 521 bus goes round the back of St Paul's and then along Holborn Viaduct (not Ludgate Hill, which is the road at the front of St Paul's). It's the bus stop outside the (north entrance) of City Thameslink station on Holborn Viaduct that is a short walk to the hotel (not the southern entrance on Ludgate Hill).

Thanks @Plexie, much appreciated. Will have a look at your suggestion ☺️

And now I've remembered that the 521 bus only runs Mon-Fri.

You'd best use Transport for London's journey planner:
