January quiet place

We've had an awful year including death and serious operation. DH wants us to go away in January for a bit of R&R . We don't want a city as it's supposed to be a relaxing break and there's to much to do in cities. What we want are nice pubs and restaurants plus the odd thing to do, preferably on the coast so if it's bad weather we can storm watch

The Northumberland coast might suit, perhaps a cottage at Alnmouth or Craster, or a bit further up the coast at Bamburgh. There are coastal walks, you could visit Alnwick castle, pop over to Lindisfarne. It will be quiet, and probably a bit wild and windy, blow away the cobwebs sort of stuff.

Whitby! It's fantastic there and nearby on the moors. Can't wait to go back.

Robin Hood’s Bay (we stayed at the Victoria hotel)

Another vote for Northumberland!

Omitted to say we're in the South West , nr Bristol and don't drive, Northumberland is a bit far but I'd love to go there one day

The train down to Cornwall? Treat yourself to a lovely meal (or two!) in Padstow.

I second the suggestion of Cornwall. Perhaps stay in St Ives or Falmouth.
