Norwich Day Trip

Longdistance · 27/08/2022 19:11

We are going by train to Norwich for the day later this week, possibly on Wednesday.

Are there any sights we really need to see? We will be walking around the city, so any walks and points of interest will be great.

Also, a restaurant for DDS and I. Dds are 11 and 12 yo. They like simple foods and nothing spicy.

All ideas would be much appreciated 😁

Lunch: Pizza Express in The Forum, get a table by window, great views.

Cathedral is a good must-see.
do some of the riverside walk near Cathedral.
People rate Dragon Hall highly.

Download a Treasure Hunt Trail from
Treasuretrails.co.uk
We’ve done a few in new cities as a way to see some sights we’d otherwise miss. They’re good fun, you can get the DC to take the lead with it.

Cathedral is walking distance from station
Elm Hill: cobbled streets / ancient houses sometimes used for film locations
Riverside walk
you can get water refills at The Forum
The market has many different independent food vendors
that would probably be enough in one day!

Stroll around Norwich Lanes. Loads of little independent shops and places to eat such as The Waffle House, Christophe’s Crepes and Grosvenor Fish Bar. There’s not much seating in Grosvenor but the food is exceptional.

Spottydotdotty · 27/08/2022 20:27

The Lanes is full of independent gift shops and cafes. There's an amazing cafe called Bread Source which does awesome pastries and just along from there over the bridge over the dual carriageway is a lovely garden called the plantation garden which is really pretty.

Norwich is probably my favourite city in the UK, we go to Norfolk every year even though we live miles away!

Sorry, posted too soon. The Forum is where the library is situated and toilets
there are also toilets in the childrens library with baby changing facilities
toilets on the market and at the Cathedral
Jarrolds has a few eating areas/cafes

Celticdawn5 · 27/08/2022 20:29

I would recommend The Pantry at Jarrolds for nice plain food for your children

worriedniece · 27/08/2022 20:30

The break charity dinosaur trail of course! Pick up a map at the forum.

Go round the market and buy churros at the Spanish food stand, grab some cakes/brownies too.

ProfYaffle · 27/08/2022 20:36

You can buy food from the market and take it into The Garnet which is a pub next to the market place. It has tables outside so you can people watch. The Bodega stall on the market is new and looks interesting.

Also check out the gelato place on Opie Street.

Castle Quarter has a lot of indoor activities, crazy golf and the like. There's also a bubble tea place on the top floor.

If you like escape rooms, Cryptic Escape on Tombland is amazing. Strangers Hall and the Bridewell are really interesting museums.

If you're in the Lanes, St Gregory's is really interesting to mooch around and you can get chips from Grosvenor chip bar while sitting on the grass outside.

ProfYaffle · 27/08/2022 20:44

Btw, Dragon Hall isn't routinely open to the public.

Skinnermarink · 27/08/2022 20:48

I can confirm the Bodega stall is amazing, I was there last week! So. Much. Pastrami.

I’d 100% rather give my money to independent businesses rather than pizza express.

Biddy’s tea room in the lanes is nice for an afternoon cake shop. Magpie Bakery Timber Hill worth a shout too.

You should go to Cafe Gelato for an ice cream - the best gelato ever!

Longdistance · 30/08/2022 19:58

Thank you every for the suggestions. They’re all amazing!
It looks like we will be rolling around Norwich with all those food suggestions 😂
We will go to the cathedral for sure and Dragon Hall looks right up our street and if not open, will definitely have a mooch. The Lanes looks great too. Maybe the castle? We’ll take it by ear.
