Alnwick has the castle, gardens, balifgate museum and just outside is the small steam railway which is nice to visit. If you like books Barter Books is amazing.

Alnmouth beach is a short drive and there is a lovely walk along the cliff tops.

Don't know much about Longframlington sorry

Onceuponaheartache · 14/07/2022 19:57

Sorry thought you were asking for which out of Alnwick and Longframlington was better.

3-4 hours from Gatwick would put you around the Sheffield/worksop area... there is

Clumber Park (nt)
Bolsover Castle (eh)
Rufford Park (Notts Council)
Worth having a search on the EH/NT websites for what is on your drive route

Alnwick definitely, for reasons as onceupon has mentioned above.

SockFluffInTheBath · 14/07/2022 20:05

I’d stay in Alnwick for the reasons given, and you can walk for coffee/dinner/coffee. Longfram is just a village, if you want sticks and quiet go for that.

SockFluffInTheBath · 14/07/2022 20:06

Coffee dinner pub, sorry.

Sorry for confusion meant to post 2 threads

Currently I arrive in tweedmouth for 2nt late monday after funeral in Glasgow.

Wednesday crossing times are 05.45 to 13.20 or 18.05 to 01.30

Have Wednesday night in alnwick yha

and if needed Thursday in alnwick lodge crawledge park .

I plan to do national trust crayside.

Alnwick Castle & Garden is good. If you prefer older ruined castles then try Warkworth or Dunstanburgh (walk from Craster or Embleton). Boat ride to the Farne Islands? You may see baby puffins this time of year. All the beaches are glorious, and get chips in Seahouses!

That’s as well as Bamburgh and Cragside- both of those are worth a trip.
