York with a 2 year old

We are spending three full days in York next week as part of a family trip. Can anyone recommend any suitable activities for a 2 year old or days out by train from York? Not sure how interested she will be looking at historical buildings.....

Railway museum of courseSmile

We did the HOHO bus tour with a toddler (who mostly just enjoyed being on an open top bus), a boat ride on the river and the railway museum.

Definitely agree with PP. The railway museum has a miniature train ride and a play area for under 5s.
DIG (the archaeology museum) has three large sand pits where kids can dig for buried objects and there’s an under 5s play area upstairs.
The Museum Gardens is a great spot for a picnic or for a run around. There are plenty of ducks to feed as well as boats to watch on the river.
Most of the river cruises are just 45 minutes long (perfect for a toddler’s attention span!). The one that we went on had a snack bar and toilets on board too.
Also recommend the York Cat Trail www.yorkluckycats.co.uk/york-cat-trail/

Try the Piglets adventure farm just outside York.

I think the Minster has a childrens trail. They also have a toddler group called Minster mice.

You could do the Wiggles Trail if he likes The Wiggles: mamaadventure.com/2021/04/27/a-wiggly-trail-york/

The train from York to Scarborough takes around 50 minutes and from the station it’s an easy walk to the beach.

Ooooh! And with the heatwave next week this could be ideal.....
