Moving to Leeds

Hello! Looking for opinions on areas in Leeds as we're planning a move there soon with a young family.

We're not sure between east and west Leeds -need to be walking distance to a station into Leeds and have seen places in our budget in both Woodlesford/Garforth/Crossgates and then also over in parts like Horsforth/Guiseley.

It looks like we can afford a lot more house for our budget over in East leeds rather than in somewhere like Guiseley, but we're worried we would regret not taking the chance to live closer to the hills in west Leeds and bring up our family near the dales. We really love the outdoors. We've been getting to know different areas but can't decide. Where would you choose to live based on what you like about living in Leeds?

Thanks so much for sharing your opinions!

I used to Live in Guiseley and can recommend it, but you do get less bang for your buck there. It is handy for the station and for Leeds Bradford airport. Less handy for the M1.

I can't comment on the other places you mention, but there are parts of East Leeds I wouldn't touch with a bargepole.

Horsforth is expensive.
The north of Leeds is the better side and brilliant to get to the airport and dales. I grew up In Woodlesford but would choose Rodley calverley,Horsforth, guiseley over East Leeds. Farsley is nice too! What is your budget?

West Leeds is more expensive for a reason. I'm sure there are nice bits of East Leeds, but I wouldn't consider living there.

Have you visited Leeds? Even a quick drive through will tell you why you get more for your money in Guiseley than in Cross Gates.

Don't you mean less for your money in Guiseley?

Definitely Guiseley direction if you like the outdoors stuff. It is the gateway to the Dales and you can be walking over Ilkley Moor within 10 minutes, or up in the high dales in 40. Lovely.

Go West!!!
Guisley/Horsforth very popular with families. Look at Menston too.

I grew up near Cross Gates. If you head further towards Barwick, Aberford, then it's lovely but across Gates is a bit of a shithole imo.
