Seaside towns with harbours

Hi, am looking to go away for a week next June and can anyone recommend a lovely harbour location with nice restaurants. Just husband and I going. We loved Weymouth this year and spent many afternoons at the harbour watching the boats go by but fancy trying somewhere different.

Any suggestions welcome, thank you! (We live in Bucks and happy to travel up to 4 hours approx by car)

Harbour Hotel, Salcombe

Photograph shows up the limitations of the camera operator rather than the scenery.

Whitby is lovely, but victim of its own success way too busy most of the time.
poole is good or Looe

Another vote for Polperro (a bit far maybe).

Fowey.
I did a sailing course from there years ago and absolutely fell in love with the place.

I'm reading this from abroad and thinking how beautiful the island of Great Britain is and missing it terribly.

Get a plane to IOM. Stay in peel or port Erin. Lovely beaches. Great countryside. It’s beautiful.

Brixham jumped to mind. I love tenby, saundersfoot and new quay in West Wales, which all have harbours, but I'm not sure how many restaurants are actually overlooking the harbours in them. Whereas Brixham I definitely remember having quite a few. St Ives too possibly.

Poole has a Quay and is on a harbour
North Devon ...

SpiderinaWingMirror · 04/06/2022 07:30

Whitby is always rammed though and failed to find a good choice of restaurants!
Cowes definitely good.

I spend a lot of time in places with harbours because DS sails and Brixham would definitely be my top recommendation.

It's got that 'old school' harbour charm combined with plenty of decent shops and restaurants. Bit of a hidden gem so it's not shoulder to shoulder with tourists like St Ives/ Padstow.

Mousehole or Looe.

Hope you soon settle if it’s a long-term move.
When there is so much gloomy news, it’s good to read a thread like this about all the beautiful places we have in U.K. 🌊⛴

Love Whitby and Scarborough, so many beautiful places within walking or driving distance.

The Kent coast is also lovely. Whitstable is a bit twee for me but I loved Broadstairs and Ramsgate seemed like a proper Barbour. It’s a lovely stretch of coast to walk along.

Lymington is also lovely. And of course Cowes on IOW. You can never go wrong with IOW, so many lovely places in a relatively small area.

I love Salcombe. Rather Chelsea on Sea and gets congested in summer but very charming.

WingBingo · 05/06/2022 22:05

Definitely Brixham.
