Hi, am looking to go away for a week next June and can anyone recommend a lovely harbour location with nice restaurants. Just husband and I going. We loved Weymouth this year and spent many afternoons at the harbour watching the boats go by but fancy trying somewhere different.

Any suggestions welcome, thank you! (We live in Bucks and happy to travel up to 4 hours approx by car)

Scarborough

Ramsgate

Broadstairs

Whitstable, but there's recently been a major fire at the harbour, so don't know what it's looking like.

I like littlehampton because it doesn't get too busy.

SE13Mummy · 03/06/2022 15:10

Lyme Regis would be my suggestion.

Scarborough! Stunning harbour views from the castle. Because it’s a relatively large resort, there is a fantastic range of good places to eat in Scarborough itself as well as the surrounding villages. Whitby is just up the road for a two-harbour holiday 🌊.

Another vote for Lyme Regis.

And do (book in advance) the Lyme Regis museum fossil walk - it's excellent!

Saundersfoot
Aberaeron
Fishguard ( watching the ferry go to Ireland is good , scenery amazing …. Not sure of restaurants though , I’m sure someone else could make recommendations)

And Bridlington 18 miles down the road from Scarborough with another lovely harbour

I’ve just been out this evening and sat in a bar overlooking the harbour, on a boat converted to a bar in the harbour and in a sun trap rooftop bar again, overlooking the harbour. It was lovely 🥰

Scarborough.

Plus Staithes north of Whitby is beautiful!

Crikeyalmighty · 03/06/2022 22:12

If you enjoyed Weymouth I think you would like Poole or Christchurch- Chichester has a lovely town and a nice harbour too

Palavah · 03/06/2022 22:14

Pleasantly surprised by Folkestone harbour area.

I love the Isle of Wight. Cows is good as is Ventnor and Benbridge . All have nice places to eat although you’d be wise to drive a little and try the others.
We’ve just come back from the island and had really lovely food at the Best Dressed Crab ( very fresh seafood) , The Royal hotel in Ventnor (small but delicious modern food ) and Albert Cottage on the Osbourne House estate. Also a great lunch at The Breeze on Harbour between Cowes and Newport.

LiliansViewScarborough · 03/06/2022 22:18

Yes Staithes too . It’s a beautiful part of the country. (May be a tad biased…)

Sycamoretrees · 03/06/2022 22:19

How about Torquay?

Ithinkwemightgetaholiday · 03/06/2022 22:21

Brixham is just gorgeous.
Don't look at Southampton or Portsmouth, they are not what you're after (live in between both). Not Poole either. Swanage is lovely, but Brixham if it's not too far for you.
