20th anniversary ideas

It's our 20th anniversary later this year and my parents have very kindly offered to look after DCs so that DH and I can go away on our own for a couple of nights. We'd be looking at midweek, within 3 hours drive max from Sussex, somewhere with things to do (so not a remote country hotel). Really stuck to even start narrowing things down to search properly, I think we need a city or large town for restaurants, a bit of culture etc. Went to uni in Oxford so not there, not London as we used to live there but what would people recommended? We want a bit of luxury for a hotel (swimming pool/spa would be good) but not really that fussy otherwise. Any ideas?

I thought about that, any hotel suggestions?

We have mainly stayed with a relative there or just In budget chain hotels . Did have a lovely afternoon tea at the Bath Macdonald for a special birthday and that was a beautiful hotel . Have a great time wherever you decide.

Broadstairs - Yarrow hotel and spa is great. Lots to do in Broadstairs, Ramsgate, Margate and Whitstable.

The Royal Crescent Hotel in Bath is the absolute bees knees if you fancy a proper pampering

Otherwise how about the New Forest? One of the Pig hotels or Lime Wood?

And there's a Groupon deal for the Yarrow spa - couples pamper package. You get one hour in the spa, just the two of you then a massage and facial in the same room, followed y coffee and pastries. I bought it yesterday. We've been before and it's fab.

Also great restaurants from amazing fish and chips from Peter's in Ramsgate (also the best Wetherspoons) to the Royal Harbour Brasserie and a great place (I'm biased as my friend owns it) Samworth and Mee on Broadstairs. Fantastic.

Lots of museums in Thanet (google) plus the Ramsgate Tunnels. Tracy Emin has a gallery in Margate.
