Day in Liverpool? Ideas

I've been wanting to do a day trip to Liverpool for ages now.
What do you recommend seeing and doing in that length of time?
I'm close enough to do it all in a day as I'm about an hour away on train, but if anyone has any great city centre hotel recommendations in case we decide to come home the next day instead that would be great Smile

Tate Liverpool. Albert docks for lunch. Stay city serviced apartments to stay over.

Do you like the Beatles? The magical mystery bus tour is good fun, have a mooch down Mathew Street, drinks in the Cavern and if you want to stay the Hard Days Night hotel is great! But all that is very Beatlesy 😂

Had a few days there as a tourist recently.

Highlights were Western Approaches museum; Museum of Liverpool; catholic cathedral; Iron men at Crosby.

Might be a bit specific - walk to the Protestant cathedral and then to the Catholic cathedral. On the way between the two you go past the performing arts school funded by Paul McCartney (previously the school that 2 of the Beatles went to) and can stop off for a drink at the Philharmonic pub where the Beatles drank. The stories/exhibitions of the cathedrals being built are both fascinating, especially the competition between the two sects, and say a lot about Liverpool as a city.

Walk down to the waterfront and along to see the Three Graces, the Beatles statue and just the way the Mersey looks. Id choose the Maritime and slavery museum over Tate Liverpool if you can. Loads of places to eat round there but book if its a Saturday night.

Loads to see and do, Hope Street is great for food
Try to book if you can hotels can be got cheaply if no foot ball or concerts on, but check how far it is from the places you want to see

If you decide to spend the night then I'd definitely recommend Alma de Cuba for food/cocktails in the evening.
