What to do in SW Wales?

My DP and I have got 5 days booked in SW Wales for the end of March. We’ll be based in between Cardigan and Carmarthen. Will the Pembrokeshire coast be too far for day trips? Happy to do an hour or so drive to get to places but ideally not everyday. Don’t know if the Brecon Beacons are also a bit far?

We’re up for anything outdoorsy - walks, kayaking, bike hire etc - but also realistic the weather may not always be on side so an indoor activity or two may be useful. Any good National Trust properties in that part of the world?

TIA!

Castell Henllys Iron Age fort and the National Botanic Garden are probably the two best days out in that area. There’s also Llanerchaeron and Colby woodland garden. There are boat trips from New Quay and Adventure Beyond does kayaking, coasteering etc… For walks, check out the Pembrokeshire Coast Path website.

The Pembs coast will be quite a drive, but it is lovely.

The beaches and walking on Cardigan Bay are stunning too. Aberaeron is a nice little harbour town, the Harbourmaster Hotel has a great foodie bar.

Walk in the Preseli hills. Go to Tafarn Sinc pub whilst you’re there.

Dinas headland is a nice walk and the pub at the end in Pwllgwealod is good.

I’ve never been as a tourist but Newport (Pembs not Gwent) is popular.

The Gwaun valley is pretty. It’s been ages but the pub in Pontfaen used to be popular as it was a real “somebody’s front room” pub.

No NT properties but plenty of castles in south Pembrokeshire.

Thank you very much everyone for these great recommendations! I’ll post what we do upon our return for any future travellers…
