Things to do in Liverpool

After GREAT success with an old thread about Belfast please help plan my trip to Liverpool!

Arrive sun 20th leaving Tuesday 22nd, stopping at the resident. Me, x2 boys 10 and 15. We don't have a car as travelling by train.

I've booked the sky bar and a light show at the cathedral so far.

Where shall we eat and what shall we do?!

TIA we're very excited!

Must go on the ferry
What is there to do once you get to the other side?
Do you just come back?

Definitely walk to the Baltic Triangle. It's the hipster part of town, lots of street art, street food venues, skate park, indoor independent market with a mix of vintage and handmade stalls to browse, indoor and outdoor bars with mocktails aplenty, good food etc someone mentioned Ghetto Golf which is there but I'm pretty sure it's 18+? But there is an arcade there too.

Clementine8 · 15/02/2022 22:39

Arcains is the arcade and its brilliant value. DS loves it there.
Depending on what type of food you like there are so many choices. As mentioned GPO, duke street market - the cuban donuts are amazing or the baltic market are great if you all like different types of food. Again 2nd almost famous for the burgers and caribou poutine goes down a treat with teens, and adults for us.
There is another mini golf course in liverpool one. Walking around the albert dock, weather permitting, is always nice. The maritime museum is my favourite.

@Zoflorabore

Hi op, I’m from Liverpool so know the city pretty well. My dc are dd (11) and ds (18) and we’ve tried loads of things out over the years.

Ever since my ds has been going into “town” on his own with friends since he was around 13 or so they have religiously gone to a fab little diner called Archie’s which is located just outside Central station. They sell burgers, waffles and the most amazing fresh shakes which are made in front of you from a huge array of chocolate bars etc, it has always been their treat place and I can highly recommend it, it’s set up like an American diner and is gorgeous.

Another recommendation for food is Smoke and Dough on Paradise Street, just outside of Liverpool One. It’s one for the hungry teens especially as their unique concept is that they bring food out in stages so breads/salads/staters and then grills and meats etc and you control when you want to be replenished, it’s certainly value for money and not for small eaters!

For your dc I can think of 2 places that they would likely enjoy, one is Ghetto golf not far from the docks and Go Karting Liverpool just a bit further along.

You will end up wanting to stay longer as there’s so much to do. Pack an umbrella as it rains quite a bit but one thing for sure is you won’t be bored.

I hope you have a fabulous time.

Will try all of these!! Thank you!

Thank! I’m such a dope, I didn’t even think of a cruise. I was just imaging going from pier head to Woodside and then what?

AdaColeman · 16/02/2022 18:07

Just a stone's throw from Woodside Ferry is Birkenhead's Hamilton Square, a near perfect Georgian Square, packed with Grade 1 listed buildings, and with its central garden still remaining.

This is what Georgian Liverpool must have looked like before the Victorians knocked it down! Wink Wink

I’d like to hijack!
Can anyone recommend reasonably priced day parking?
I’ve got a day off tomorrow so feeling inspired to make a trip.

I'm not sure how it compares with other places in Liverpool but I often park at the Anglican Cathdral.

DreamingofBrie · 16/02/2022 21:52

And at the other end of town is the King's Dock car park at Albert Dock:

Both look cheaper than Liverpool One.

The Liver building is definitely worth a visit! There's a light projection show half way up & the views from the top are amazing. We went last summer & will go again this year too.

Mowgli Street Food (there's one on Water St and one on Bold St) is Indian Street food - really very nice if you like Asian spicy food.

On a good day, perhaps you could climb to the top of the Anglican Cathedral? The view will be spectacular.

Check out the Empire, Philharmonic, Everyman etc to see what shows are on?

Catquestion · 16/02/2022 23:12

If Ghetto Golf is over 18s only, try junkyard golf in L1. They allow under 18s at certain times

Mowgli is great for dinner. Quirky Corner is lots of fun - we all loved it. We had a great time in Liverpool at half term but didn't do half of what's on your list. You'll be doing well to get through all of that!

SwedishEdith · 17/02/2022 00:44

Don't know if you'll be a bit museumed out but I love the World Museum. www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk/world-museum. I absolutely love the planetarium in there but the times might not work for you. Near to Lime Street though so could do before head home?

jay55 · 17/02/2022 07:05

I loved Salt House Tapas if it's still there, though accept tapas can add up quickly with hungry teens.

Agree with the above on Mowgli street food.

The quirky thing looks interesting - is it the sort of thing an adult could go to alone? Or is it more for families/children? Or for groups, like escape rooms?
