After GREAT success with an old thread about Belfast please help plan my trip to Liverpool!

Arrive sun 20th leaving Tuesday 22nd, stopping at the resident. Me, x2 boys 10 and 15. We don't have a car as travelling by train.

I've booked the sky bar and a light show at the cathedral so far.

Where shall we eat and what shall we do?!

TIA we're very excited!

This is a fabulous place! www.britishmusicexperience.com/

Not sure what it's like during covid - we went about 3 years ago and it was really interactive - we went at the end of the day before closing and we spent a very happy hour or so playing with all the instruments and singing in a recording booth

Not sure if it fits your remit but for something a bit different is a cake making/decorating class at make at the north docks. The tutor is jill and the company is secret cake workshop. We had great fun as a family and got to eat them afterwards!

I love Liverpool....we are off twice soon for gigs. Yes to previous suggestions.....Crosby beach with the Gormleys is a must for us.

McScreamysGhostPants · 13/02/2022 10:27

For food definitely visit the GPO food hall. It's AMAZING and has such a a huge variety of food and styles.

Starlitexpress · 13/02/2022 10:32

If the weather is nice, worth a trip out to Speke Hall. Fabulous house with lovely gardens and amazing views down the Mersey. As it it is right next to the airport, good for plane spotting as well! There is a bus from Liverpool One, takes ages though as it stops everywhere.

Ye olde cracke is a proper old man's wood panel pub just off hope Street think it's rice street easy walk from bold street. There's also two very historical cemeteries around there, one houses William Mackenzie's tomb which is a big spooky black pyramid. There's also some nice restaurants around hope Street and Rodney street as well as loads on the docks. Maggie Mays cafe on bold street is good for proper Scouse, a traditional Liverpool stew. There's a lot to do I will try think of more later.

Please avoid Mathew St of an evening. It's awful. And I'm from Liverpool.

HoobleDooble · 13/02/2022 11:16

We did a bus tour last time we went but only got round about 3/4 of it before we were kicked off because it was raining so heavily the tannoy system packed in! Enjoyed the bit we did get to do though! 😁 We spent the rest of the day in the Maritime Museum instead.

We went here last summer with DD 14 and loved it! Could have stayed longer!

The Antony Gormley sculptures at Crosby beach.

The Western Approaches is a great museum, it's less well known than the bigger museums in Liverpool, but well worth a visit - liverpoolwarmuseum.co.uk/

Periwinkletoes · 14/02/2022 22:10

Take a tour of the Anglican Cathedral including a climb up the tower. You get close to the huge bells and when you get to the top an impressive view across the city. Also handy for the restaurants on Hope st. and the Philharmonic pub.

atomicnotsoblonde · 14/02/2022 22:42

Is there anywhere good for breakfast? Full English type to fill the teens up for a day sightseeing!

Hi op, I’m from Liverpool so know the city pretty well. My dc are dd (11) and ds (18) and we’ve tried loads of things out over the years.

Ever since my ds has been going into “town” on his own with friends since he was around 13 or so they have religiously gone to a fab little diner called Archie’s which is located just outside Central station. They sell burgers, waffles and the most amazing fresh shakes which are made in front of you from a huge array of chocolate bars etc, it has always been their treat place and I can highly recommend it, it’s set up like an American diner and is gorgeous.

Another recommendation for food is Smoke and Dough on Paradise Street, just outside of Liverpool One. It’s one for the hungry teens especially as their unique concept is that they bring food out in stages so breads/salads/staters and then grills and meats etc and you control when you want to be replenished, it’s certainly value for money and not for small eaters!

For your dc I can think of 2 places that they would likely enjoy, one is Ghetto golf not far from the docks and Go Karting Liverpool just a bit further along.

You will end up wanting to stay longer as there’s so much to do. Pack an umbrella as it rains quite a bit but one thing for sure is you won’t be bored.

I hope you have a fabulous time.

Zoflorabore · 14/02/2022 23:18

Ps I’ve just checked out your hotel and it looks fabulous and is well situated for the docks area and lots of food and drink places. It’s also not far from the golf/go karting places.
My dd is going to a hotel on Sunday night with her best friends family on the same street as your hotel, it’s not somewhere I know well so have been looking in/around Seel Street to see what it’s like.

I would stay in the city centre area for this short trip as some of the places mentioned could eat into your day quite a bit ( Crosby and Speke for example ) but you will struggle to fit everything in so may have an excuse to come back if you like it Smile

AdaColeman · 14/02/2022 23:36

Leaf on Bold Street would be very convenient for your hotel for breakfast, and their brunch always gets good mentions.

OnGoldenPond · 14/02/2022 23:57

Tate Gallery on Albert Dock.

Kevinthesnipe · 15/02/2022 00:18

You’re literally round the corner from Almost famous - amazing burgers! Arcains is a great few hours for teenagers, ghetto golf with your mum might be a bit embarrassing (some holes have sexually explicit content), but the Baltic market and old brewery area in general is very hipster.
Moose coffee is the best breakfast in Liverpool in my opinion.
