London zoo

I’m taking Dd 8 to London for a few days this summer and trying to plan where we want to go.
Is London zoo worth a visit or are we better off going to a different zoo another time?
We’ve already done Chester, Edinburgh, Blackpool and west midlands safari park so maybe looking at Yorkshire wildlife park as another option

I had membership and used it like a playground after school for my children. It's fairly smaller than the other zoos you've visited. My children now find it totally underwhelming (age 9 and 5). Also check if the reptile house and aquarium are open as they've been closed for covid for a long time.

London Zoo isn’t a patch on Chester or Edinburgh, and if you’re only in London for a few days, don’t waste your time there when there’s so much else worth seeing and doing

As a Londoner I love ZSL but if I was coming here for a short visit I wouldn't bother : there are other zoos but there isn't another Tower Bridge/Natural History Museum/South Bank/Buckingham Palace/Trafalgar Square/Greenwich/Covent Garden/Tower of London/War Rooms/British Museum.....,,

It is smaller, But there is something very special about it.
they’ve (rightly) moved a lot of their bigger animals to whipsnade and are constrained by a lot of the animal houses being listed, but I find the evolution and architecture interesting. So there are no elephants or common hippos. They do have a new tiger cub, as well as lions and gorillas. A great bug house, the spider exhibit is great (make sure you listen to the spider talking, it’s opposite the bath). Maybe see if you can book a giraffe feed or penguin feed when your there. They’ve also got a great Komodo dragon exhibit.

As for other zoos. Longleat is a great one worth a visit.

Don't go. Zoos are inherently cruel. No matter how well cared for, and loved these animals are, it is wrong to have wild animals in captivity for peoples entertainment.

I live in London so it was the only zoo I’d ever really known as a child, so also always took my kids there.
We went to colchester and longleat then returned to London zoo after not going for several years. Was really disappointed. We were done in 2 hours.

Thanks everyone I think we’ll do other things in London and then go to Yorkshire wildlife park.
@SummaLuvin I appreciate your comment but DD is really interested in animals and conservation projects, a lot of these zoos work hard to help animals in the wild as well and to establish breeding programs and I’d rather these animals were alive in zoos than extinct in the wild
