I’m going to book for the first time and I wonder if there is anything I need to be aware of before doing so? I assume the page is safe for using a credit card on?

I book with them regularly and host too, in fact I have just booked 1 week here in The UK and 1 in Europe
Never had any problems at all with it but be as careful as you would ordinarily be and don’t agree if you are asked by an owner to book outside the site

Check the cancellation policy and the reviews. If in doubt, ask on the local TripAdvisor forum as the locals can often spot a red herring e.g. a sub-let housing association flat!
I've used it a few times and the only issue i've had was when the host cancelled on us about 2 weeks before we were due to travel. We got our money back but AirBnB were no help whatsoever in finding new accommodation and that was half a day i didn't really have to spare and we couldn't be flexible with dates or location as we had flights booked to attend a specific event!
