Weekend with mum

I'm looking to take my 84 year old mum away for a weekend in April .
We're in the north west and I don't want to drive more than 2 hours away from Manchester. I'm looking for a nice hotel with single rooms in a town with shopping, parks, attractions but it must be on the flat as mum doesn't walk very well and won't have assistance .
It must be pretty with lots of good architecture for her to oooo and ahhh over .
Do any of you lovely people have any recommendations? 😀

Harrogate?

Starbonnet123 · 09/01/2022 20:36

@Luredbyapomegranate thanks for that , I'll have a look . One of the big problems I forgot to mention was that mum won't share a room and there not many hotels that do singles anymore so it can work out pricey .
Maybe air b&b might be better .

The Rutland Arms in Bakewell has singles

Harrogate involves a lot of walking, more than you expect seems to be uphill. Go to Otley. Walk by the river, look at the shops, try the cafes. All very compact.

York or Durham

garlictwist · 10/01/2022 05:21

Durham is not flat. York is flatter but can be very busy. What about Ripon?

Starbonnet123 · 11/01/2022 07:39

Thank you for you suggestions I will look int them 😀

Chester

Bakewell is flat in the town centre, but there's not much there, other than some ducks and some tea shops.

Stratford Upon Avon is flat and quite a bit more exciting than Bakewell, but I'm not sure how long the drive is.

Blackpool. Flat as a pancake 😄

Fair enough. Bakewell is flat in the town centre, but that won’t keep you busy for a whole weekend.

Perhaps if you’re driving, Chatsworth House would be possible if you stay at Bakewell

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/01/2022 06:39

Yes to Chatsworth.
