I want to book a cottage holiday for my family. We are 2 adults, a teenager, a primary age child and toddler. I live in the east Midlands. Problem is, we don't drive so beautiful areas like whitby and cornwall are basically out. We want a beautiful peaceful cottage closer to shops etc. Any ideas at all or give up?

We stayed in Old Windsor one Easter. Quiet but with a few shops, pubs and restaurants. Got the bus into Windsor for the castle, boat trips, Eton etc. Also easy to get the train into London for the day. You could walk to the Runnymede Memorial and where the Magna Carta was signed. Plus Windsor Great Park and the farm shop. And you could get the bus to Legoland.
