Pen y Fan in October?

We've booked a week away on the Welsh coast (near Ogmore) in October. Brave or wot? Grin I lived in Carmarthenshire for a few years but don't know the area around the Brecons as well, does anyone walk Pen y Fan/Corn Du and know whether it's usually still a relatively good 'beginners'/kids walk in autumn? We'll be there before half term starts so I'm less worried about it being crazy-busy but if it turns into a swamp in early October and stays that way until May then I'd like to be prepared!

@Gliblet Pen Yr Fan is busy all year round. I'd be prepared for the walk as the weather up the top can change very quickly and sometimes snowing on the top on a "normal day". You may not be able to see far either that time of year.
