Aberford - Yorkshire

I'm planning a trip to meet my friend for a big dog walk in October. I'm near Holmes Chapel & she is in Sunderland, Aberforth comes up as the half way point but I've got no clue about what's there and whether it's got a good park to walk the dogs.

Does anyone know anything about it or able to recommend somewhere of a similar distance that's going to be great for dog walking and have a nice pub for lunch afterwards?

Is it Aberford, just off the A1 near Leeds? If so, Lotherton Hall is very close by - nice grounds and cafe for walking.

Lotherton Hall is nice, but fairly small unless you leave the grounds - there's a few public footpaths, so you could make it into a bigger walk.

There's also some public footpaths on the outskirts of Aberford but they're not particularly interesting and will probably be very muddy in October.

Temple Newsam might be another option and can walk a good few miles around the whole parkland.

There's a new service station off J45 of M1 that has an adjacent lake and canal access, and they encourage people to walk from the service station - also nicer than average cafes, like Leon.

Or the Yorkshire Sculpture Park a little bit further down the M1, but really worth a visit, and if you walk around the grounds and right up to the far end, that could be at least 5 miles.

Thanks all. We've got time to decide and there's some really options provided.

Aberford itself has nothing in the way of big parks for dog walks, but it is at one end of the Fly Line which is a good walk towards Garforth, and there are one or two pubs.

Temple Newsham is much bigger than Lotherton, with literally miles of open space, miles of footpaths, a historic house with (iirc) a licenced cafe, beautiful open gardens and free parking. No country pub though.
