We are staying in Leeds tomorrow night and I'd like to go to York for the day. Is it very busy on a weekend and can we park in the centre or is it better to park and ride or get the train?

Any things to do with 2 teenagers?

Park and ride is good.
Railway station is about 10-15 minutes walk from the centre over the River.
We went last week. Lots of good shopping. My teenager liked the Jorvik centre but it gets booked up incredibly quickly. You can hire a boat to go on the river. If they like Harry Potter then the Shambles is basically Diagon Alkey these days. My teen found the Minster and museums a bit dull, as well as the historic bits. It was a challenge, put it that way.

Definitely park and ride! Tonnes of parking at any of them and the buses run really regularly. So much easier than trying to park in the centre which would be horrific.

So possibly not a great day out for teens then?

We went to York for day with teenagers last week on way back from coast. We did park and ride and it was great as it is busy, but if you are staying in Leeds Centre then train is great too.
We had nice day, Yorkshire museum just over bridge is good , lots on there. Can walk round the city walls. We had lunch in Dutch pancake house which they really liked. We like mooching about and shopping and it does have historic atmosphere. Minster seemed busy and when we've been before you have to pay and unless they are interested then not worth it. Good to look from outside.
There is lots to do in Leeds though too

York for teens - boat trip, ghost walk, dungeons…

My favourite museum in York is the Cold War Bunker - really interesting. It's about a 30 min walk from the station though so not that central. It might appeal more to teens than the Minster etc.

My teen definitely enjoyed the Jorvic and the York Chocolate Story. We didn't bother with the Minster it's not his thing. If we had more time, we would have booked a sightseeing boat ride.
