Hi everyone I'm looking at southport for a few days short break in October just me and the hubby :) looking at booking the premier inn central. Is it a nice place? plenty for us to do for a few days? Like shopping a bit of sightseeing and some nice cafes restaurants couple of bars. Just fancy trying somewhere different hubby wants to go to chester again lol...

I don’t think u would find enough to do for a few days
It’s been ages since I went but it has an ‘ older feel ‘ and I say that in my 50s
Better going to Liverpool loads to see and do , bars and restaurants aplenty

Southport can be a bit “old people-y”.

Lord Street used to be lovely, but now it is mostly charity shops interspersed with cheap bars and discount shops.

If you want to walk along the seafront and not see the sea then you'll be fine.

There's a lawnmower museum Grin

Apologies to any Southport residents, but it's pretty grim these days

I’d do Liverpool or Manchester instead.

Tbf we are oldies well in our fifties hubby pushing 60 😅 so not after somewhere mad lol. A bit of a wander through the day and a nice meal at night maybe a drink afterwards but normally just back to the hotel. We live just outside the lakes and we're always there like a busmans holiday lol, so just a break somewhere different but not to far away normally it's always Manchester and chester ( or Newcastle as we have friends there ) done Liverpool but we didn't like it 😏 sorry lol... had seen a few comments on a few pages about people going to southport so thought I'd have a look 👀

I live not far from there. If you have a car it's great base as there's some lovely restaurants. There's Formby beach about 15 minutes then the other way you have lytham and the coast that way. If you don't have a car I wouldn't recommend as there's not a lot to do!

Southport comedy festival is on in October.
If you have a car then Martin Mere RSPB centre is not far and a nice day out. You could get the train to Waterloo and walk down to the beach and see the Iron Men on Crosby Beach.
