Does anywhere like this exist? Secluded, rural, basic cabin or similar?

Firstly, I admit that I've watched way too much Virgin River but I have a huge craving to go for a few days away somewhere that has the following:

Secluded/ rural
Woodland and river nearby
Log cabin or similar
Not necessarily luxurious but clean and comfortable and either sleeps 2 or 6.
Within 2-3 hours of Birmingham

I'm open to any suggestions 🙂

No idea what it's like though.

KingscoteStaff · 13/08/2021 20:48

Have you tried One Cat Farm?

Chasingsquirrels · 13/08/2021 20:50

www.islehamfen.co.uk/yurt%20&%20tipi.html again no idea what it's like.

TheBullfinch · 13/08/2021 21:11

I'd love this but every time I look, the huts/yurts are in a wide open field with several others, so its more like a campsite than a proper rural retreat.

If Im paying good money to go somewhere like that, I dont want to have to be next to other people because then, its just like a socially distanced caravan site basically. Plus, the owner's house is usually oppressively close by and overlooking the site.

hairycabbage · 13/08/2021 21:37

Thebullfinch, that's exactly how I feel! I'm going to have a look at all of these, thank you.

Not sure of it's your thing but there was an article in this week's Sunday Times travel section about a company who book single camper van pitches in secluded places. The author hired a van and pitched up on someone's land with no-one else around.

VikingNorthUtsire · 13/08/2021 21:42

The company is called Wild with Consent.

Try Canopy & Stars.

Look on Airb&b?

3luckystars · 13/08/2021 21:45

I stayed at Lough Ness in Scotland once, there were cabins beside the lake, really remote, pitch dark, you had to walk with a torch to come home from the village. It was not scary but very isolated. I think that might be a bit further than you wanted though but it was a really nice place.

3luckystars · 13/08/2021 21:47

I just looked and that’s an 8 hour drive!! Apologies for my poor geography. Sorry about that, I hope you find what you are looking for. All the best.

BikeRunSki · 13/08/2021 21:49

I’m not sure that anywhere within 3 hours of Birmingham is that remote.

tilder · 13/08/2021 21:49

Would a bothy work? Not just in Scotland. Don't expect a high end Shepherds hut. They are very basic but if you're looking for remote and isolated then a bothy will deliver.

Cattaxi · 13/08/2021 21:49

Lots of lovely places on air b&b around the Barmouth area.

This looks amazing, thank you. Definitely on my shortlist.

Its a few miles from where I live, and where I get my hen food from.

Might be 3 hours from Birmingham depending where in Birmingham...

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 13/08/2021 21:59

Not in the UK but have a look in the Klondike.

ScribblingPixie · 13/08/2021 22:11

I don't know how I forgot this place but I've actually stayed here. It's not the cheapest but it's down a lane & in its own space. Very peaceful. www.canopyandstars.co.uk/britain/england/dorset/buck-s-coppice/buck-s-coppice

VallarMorghulis · 13/08/2021 22:24

this is my friends' glamping venture, it's got everything you asked for plus chickens and alpacas and more. It's an amazing setting, run by lovely people, about 3 hours from Birmingham.

justaweeone · 14/08/2021 09:01

Maybe not secluded enough but less than 3 hours away
