Hello, I'm looking for somewhere in the UK for a family to visit for a few days - mon-Thursday , early august.

We are travelling from
north east and can travel via train or car. We have thought about heading down to London but we've done that before and I quite fancy something different. Totally given up on the easy idea of a holiday abroad as the stress of testing etc will drive me insane 😂

3 and 9 year old, nice food places, lots to see and do. Haven't totally ruled out London but open to any other suggestions? Dad is defo not keen on camping . Last minute! Please help ! Thank you

For me I would do a city break in Liverpool
www.donthibernate.co.uk/liverpool/
It also has some nice beaches nearby under 45 mins drive
Or North Wales has everything to offer
Some Info here

I would look around the Conwy. Llandudno area as its a short drive to Snowdonia,

if you want Fish Chips and Bingo then Towyn is for you, the kids will love the small Fun Fair and the Tat Market, but 2 miles away you have nice beaches and tranquil countryside

Should be able to find accommodation here

Edinburgh or Liverpool are great for things to see and do.

Stillgoings · 24/07/2021 11:56

We love Whitby and loads to do there and easy for you to get to.

Also don't give up if you look on sites like hoseasons and there is no availability. Keep looking, people are cancelling left, right and centre as they go down with illness. We are just on our way back from the Norfolk broads. We booked a cottage as couldn't get a boat,.but if I'd have waited various boats came up as late cancellations.

Edinburgh - loads to do for kids that age, great bus service, beach at portobello, green space and parks in the city centre if you get overwhelmed by tourist attractions

Sadly I think you have to really be lucky to manage to book a nice place this year. No last minute deals for genuinely nice places this year!

Booked mine 13 months ago! Shock

Edinburgh - went a couple of weeks ago and absolutely loved it. So much to do, lots of great food and really friendly people. We got a cheap premier inn last minute, and no problem at all.

our air bnb cancelled on us with less than 48 hours notice

other similar would cost a factor of several more now

so I have booked a Travelodge in August

We have stayed at them before, and they can be in the middle of cities where there is a lot to do.

The one we have booked has ASK Italian etc very close by, my kids love that.

My kids also like their breakfasts, though I'm not sure how they are managing buffet breakfasts right now.

It's very convenient that cases are going down right now, it would have been more uncomfortable going away if it seemed very risky, fingers crossed (we are in fact going to see granny)
