I was in North Devon a couple of weeks ago.

It was busy, and this was before the school holidays.

Mediocre restaurants were fully booked or had long waits (luckily we could self cater, but had been hoping to eat out more), traffic queues for the villages people want to visit or pass through (very glad we took bikes to avoid that once we'd arrived). Some of the locals we met were understandably tetchy if not downright rude (including those working in hospitality).

Then the traffic on the M5 north to come home was bumper to bumper.

It must be hell on earth now with the hot weather and school holidays in some places.
