Places to stop on A303

Hi all

Looking for a convenient place to stop for dinner/pub food just off the A303 - ideally just after Stonehenge towards Yeovil.

We are heading straight to Devon after school next week and would like to have somewhere in mind to stop!

TIA

The fleet air arm museum is near Yeovil. It's been a few years since I was there, but it's only about ten minutes off the A303 and certainly used to be a great place to visit.

Does it do food?!

I'm pretty sure there's a restaurant on site, yeah.

Just reread the OP and realised I totally missed that you specifically wanted to stop for food, sorry!

Is Stourhead too far?

Summersun4 · 26/06/2021 14:53

Route 303, it's an American place

Cart gate services are our favourite, lovely home cooked food, plus sandwiches etc. If we don’t stop there, we don’t stop.

The Riverbarn at Fonthill Bishop is less than a mile and good.
The Beckford Arms is nearby
The Fox and Hounds at East Knoyle

Bearyhumcrack · 26/06/2021 16:05

I like Mattia!

CaptainCallisto · 26/06/2021 16:44

Yes to Cartgate services. Lovely food, decent toilets, and outdoor picnic benches if the weather's nice.

megletthesecond · 26/06/2021 16:50

Fleet Air arm museum is great. Playground, clean toilets and you can watch for helicopters taking off.

goldpendant · 26/06/2021 19:50

Thank you all this selection is perfect!

Slightly off the A303 but not too far but the Prince Leopold Inn in Upton Lovell is AMAZING. Well worth the detour. However the American diner is not a bad shout!

goldpendant · 26/06/2021 19:59

Thanks everyone, hoping it'll be a more regular run down so these will all come in handy!
