In a moment of madness, I wondered what would be available for the first 2 weeks in August near the lake district for 5 people and was also toying with the idea of finding somewhere for my family, my sister's family and our parents so 11 of us..

There were 5 properties:
A 5 bed apartment in Barrow in Furness, aimed at contractors working for BAE: 2K
A beautiful 2 bed apartment near lake Windemere for 6K which turns out to only in fact have 2 double beds so wouldn't fit the 5 of us.

A Bunkbarn also near Windemere, sleeping 14, so we could invite my sister and her family along too maybe.. and my brother and his family.. No interior pictures at all which is never a good sign for a bargain of 14K for 2 weeks
Number 4 is the Baron Wing of Appleby Castle, sleeps 10 in 5 double so opulent but not entirely ideal for the teenagers.. 38K

and the winner is.....
Quernmore Park Hall, which sleeps 16 at an eye watering 72,000 for 2 weeks.

Jeez. I'll be happy to join your family for the holiday if you can afford that sort of money.
I'll just go and pack my case.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 22/06/2021 13:59

That last one is 237 pppn if you have full occupancy, which doesn't quite as bad, if a little on the steep side Grin

emmathedilemma · 22/06/2021 14:54

And I bet they're all still cheaper than Centre Parcs Grin

ChateauMargaux · 22/06/2021 14:54

@notthemum We usually camp!! So, no... we definitely cannot afford any of those!! If we emptied out piggy banks we might stretch to £6k for a family trip of a lifetime... I am not sure that 2 weeks in Windemere would quite fit that description.

Ah, I think the weather is going to get a bit rubbishy (I'm just slipping out of the door to put my case back).
Sorry and all that , but I'm getting on a bit now and my days of camping and wanting to be up to my neck in mud and freezing my arse off at about 3 in the morning are long gone. I definately prefer at least 4 stars these days.
But if you get to go anywhere have a good time. 🤑 ⛺ 🌧☔🫕

@emmathedilemma. Well, Centre Parcs are totally booked out for August in all of their UK locations so that's out. Out of curiosity, I did look for August 2022.. It would be 4K for 2 weeks.

Though I was totally shocked at the price difference between the basic and premium accommodation.... 9K per week for a treehouse???

We splashed out 3 years ago and had a FANTASTIC night in this place in France.. www.cabane-bois-orient.fr/accommodation/cabane-tribu/

Have you seen the £9k service fee? Shock

It is beautiful but not worth it.

Quernmore Park looks amazing - but you'd think someone who owns a house like that would be able to spell opulence.

No reviews and 14 night minimum stay...

And the furnishings don't appear to have changed since the house was up for sale in 2013 (it sold in n 2014): www.zoopla.co.uk/property/quernmore-park-hall/quernmore-park/lancaster/la2-9hn/12546848/

Just a thought and you would have to take kids out of school for a week but, we always used to go on The Sun holidays. 9 quid per person for 4 nights. Can usually get somewhere near a beach, they tend to have swimming pools, amusements and kids clubs (yay).
Self catering. You have to be arsed to sort it out but we have been all over the country and had brilliant times and at 9 quid per person you can afford a few luxuries.

whataboutbob · 26/06/2021 22:58

Ok, this really is sour grapes, but quernmore park- vulgar. The furnishings look tacky. And oppulance?!

Serin · 27/06/2021 00:20

Have you thought about doing a house swap instead?
