How to stop escaping toddler

Heading to our usual caravan site in a couple of weeks, had planned on travel cot for our toddler but discovered he can climb out it with ease. He will now be sleeping in a bed which is fine but he is an explorer so need to stop him escaping the bedroom on his own. Struggling to find a travel stair gate to fit the small width of interior caravan doors.

What do people do in this situation?

Improvise! If he is in a twin room we used to put the mattress from the bed onto the floor so ours couldn't roll out of bed and hurt themselves we have used the parcel shelf from our car as a makeshift staircase in caravans before and it worked well!!

Stairgate, not staircase and apologies for my awful grammar.

One of us just slept in the same room as DD. Easiest way to be sure she wasn't roaming about on her owns.
