Hostels in Edinburgh

Would be so grateful for personal recommendations-DD and 2 Uni friends hoping to go to Edinburgh for a few days for a city break.

Providing it is even allowed in July-we are in England.
Obviously safety and cleanliness paramount.
Not much experience-ideally would you look for a woman's only one?
Any other tips?

I can’t recommend as I’ve never stayed in one in Edinburgh but know they are there.

Consider travel lodge and premier inn too. Some very good deals around at the moment.

There's an SYHA hostel which is very convenient for the city centre and they do small private rooms so they could have their own space. I've paid for the 4th bed when there's only been 3 of us and it still worked out cheaper than 2 hotel rooms.
There's some private ones too but tbh I don't think I'd want to stay in them and there's usually a fairly strong odour of weed wafting out of the front door!
Premier Inn and Travelodge would also be worth checking as would the student accommodation as they often rent to the public over the summer. Pollock Halls of residence is one of the main uni halls and there's an increasing number of privately run "halls" popping up around the city - when I've booked them in other cities i've found them on booking.com
I suspect hotels might be cheaper than normal this summer due to the lack of Tattoo and reduced Festival shoes so they might pick up something slightly better than a hostel (although there's nothing wrong with SYHA and student flats in my experience).

Meadow Court or Castle Studios are probably the best location of these:
