Hotel recommendations in York

I’m thinking about going to York in July for a few nights with my dh without the kids, can anyone recommend a good hotel that’s close to restaurants/bars etc and that has parking (will be driving from Scotland)? Thanks 😊

The Minster Hotel has parking. It was friendly, comfortable, stylish and really well located.

Thanks very much, I’ll have a look!

York is like Edinburgh for parking - terrible!!
Could you get the train as it would open up a lot more options if you didn't need parking and it's usually quicker than driving.
We got a private room and stayed at the YHA hostel which had parking but it was a bit further out of the city centre - there was a bus but we walked in along the river.
If you're going over the summer then try the uni / student accommodation and there's a Stables jockey school that does B&B that's reasonably priced.

Yes I’m starting to realise that!! There’s not a lot with parking. I’ll look at the train options thank you

Hotel Kilima.
It has a private car park round the back and a pool!! Very close to city centre too.

The Hilton at Cliffords tower has parking underground and is very central

I travel from Scotland to York a lot for work (or used to!) I stay in the Holiday Inn at the racecourse. It's not fancy but reliable. There's parking and it's easy to get back on the road home. It's a bit out of town, about 20 min walk into the centre. There's also a Marriott on the same road.

We like the Dean Court in York. Very central and they'll valet park your car for you!

ethelredonagoodday · 27/04/2021 11:45

Malmaison is due to open very soon. Also cedar court grand is very swanky, if you're looking for somewhere special. The principal is directly next to the station and also looks v nice.

harriethoyle · 27/04/2021 11:56

The hotel next to the station (the principal?) is absolutely lovely and oodles of parking so works for either train or car

emmathedilemma · 27/04/2021 11:58

There's a couple of Premier Inns on blossom street which isn't far from the station and to walk into the city centre.
If you're looking at train ticket it's probably too early for the cheapest "advance" tickets to be on sale yet.

We stayed at Staycity Apartments when we went to York. There is a carpark behind and the city walls are right across the road.

WetWeekends · 27/04/2021 12:04

The Grand is really lovely, parking is expensive though, but it is everywhere in York. The rooms are massive, it’s very central and the pool is lovely.

schroeder · 27/04/2021 12:09

We love Hedley House on Bootham it has parking! And us a nice easy stagger from the pub!Grin
Lots of stairs though, so I know it might not suit everyone.

Bourbonic · 27/04/2021 12:19

We use the Churchill, which has parking. We always book a bunker room which is fab and it's a short walk to the bars.

Tinkletwat · 27/04/2021 13:12

Hotel du Vin has parking (& is a lovey hotel!).

Yogatoga09 · 27/04/2021 18:23

Thanks very much everyone, lots of options to look at. I’ll be busy tonight!

I stayed in Middletons in York last year. Lovely place and has a car park. Very easy to walk to the bars and attractions. Its got a lovely restaurant and bar, staff were really friendly. In fact we are hoping to stay there next year. Its got out buildings with different rooms and really quiet at night. Also a fab cooked breakfast in the mornings.

Yogatoga09 · 27/04/2021 22:05

Thanks again everyone. We’ve decided to treat ourselves & stay at The Grand

Good choice it’s lovely. Only 5 mins walk over the bridge and you’re in the city centre. Station parking is cheaper than their valet.
ethelredonagoodday · 28/04/2021 18:27

Ooh lovely! I've only been in the spa but that was very nice!

Huginamugg · 28/04/2021 18:41

We stayed in the Holiday Inn beside the racecourse last year which was nice and in a quiet location. Maybe different if there were races on.
It had plenty of parking. The walk into town would take about 25 mins, but there's a bus stop just across the road.
We did consider the Premiere Inn as it was much more central but it said parking was limited which put us off.
York itself was very enjoyable.

garlictwist · 29/04/2021 06:08

I would second getting the train, especially from Edinburgh which is so quick and direct. York is not good for parking or driving. Sorry can't help on the hotel front as I live there so never stayed in one!
