Not Devon or Cornwall in June

We've booked to go to France in June to stay at a relative's house, but it's looking increasingly unlikely, so now planning on a back-up plan for the UK at the same time (so we don't end up in Tiverton in a Premier Inn as we did last year....!)

Where could we go that ISN'T Devon or Cornwall that might be nice weather (obviously I know this isn't guaranteed, by that I mean don't suggest Seahouses or something...) mid-June?

North Kent coast is out (did Margate/Sheerness area last year)
Cornwall is out as we're going, all being well, in May.
Devon is out as we've been to both North Devon (Woolacombe) for years on end and I'm a bit over it for a year, and we went to Salcombe area fairly recently.

Looking for somewhere with things to do, for two couples and an 18mo...

Any ideas?

Isle of Wight or Jersey

How about Dorset? We did the Wareham area a couple of years back. Lovely scenic walks, the dog loved exploring Corfe castle and I checked out the monkey sanctuary, which is wonderful if you like apes, and Splashdown in Poole is lots of fun!

Anglesey? Obviously the weather isn’t guaranteed but due to their microclimate it’s generally better.

HappyDaysToCome · 26/03/2021 19:07

Pembrokeshire

We’re going to the IOW in May, but I do have a love for Norfolk. I’m not too fussed about Cornwall or Devon.
Also, Anglesey is lovely, but yes it is weather dependent.

I would give the coast a miss (it's going to be rammed) and go to Shropshire. It's lovely and there is lots to do.

How about North Norfolk coast? Holkham beach is probably the finest beach you're ever going to come across and countryside is gorgeous. Towns like Wells and Burnham Market are lovely and you can go seal watching at Blakeney. We drove from SE last year and I was surprised how quick it was as the M11 is great - only took 2 hrs.

What could be nicer than Tiverton though? Great restaurants there (yes, really).

Seventrees · 26/03/2021 19:15

I like Dorset too. Beautiful part of the world.

MrsFin · 26/03/2021 19:17

West Wales, when they start allowing the Saesneg in.

Ooh these are all great. I love Guernsey but have never been to Jersey, nor the Isle
Of Wight, so that's somewhere to look.

Dorset, Anglesey and Pembrokeshire again, definitely worth looking at - thank you!!

Norfolk too - I was actually looking at Wells but I don't know the area so wasn't sure where was good - thank you!

@Seventrees I'm sure it's lovely normally but we went during eat out to help out, couldn't get a seat in any restaurant (including Wetherspoons...!) and ended up ordering dominos to the hotel room!

If you want the coast, I second IOW or dorset- the area around swanage and durdle door is lovely. The new forest is inland a bit but easy to visit coast in day trips. All will likely be busy. What about the south downs national park? Marwell zoo, butser hill farm or portsmouth historic dockyard are all great days out!

Norfolk, Kelling Heath is lovely, nice up market spa on site, lots of nature walks, wonderful pubs, the sea, seal trips. If you leave it until July you can even watch the household cavalry holidaying on the beach.....if you like horses and erm.....soldiers Wink
