York with teens?

We've been to York before but the kids were much younger. This time we're looking at going in October with a 13 year old and a 16 year old. Any recommendations of things to do in the city?

Jorvik
Railway museum
Dungeons
Walk the city walls
The HOHO bus tour was quite entertaining
Hire a boat on the river
Get the teens to plan it then they can't moan!!

As well as the recommendations above, there’s Point Zero trampoline park, (hopefully it will be open again in October!) and there’s lots going on around the new stadium near Monks Cross/Vanguarde where there’s ten pin bowling, inside crazy golf, and a cinema.
Maybe they would also love afternoon tea at Plush cafe on Stonegate where they can sit on swings while they eat. The milkshakes, cakes and hot chocolates are awesome (but pricy!)
A visit to York’s Chocolate Story where they do tours and workshops would be good.
In October, York Maze open for Halloween nights which teenagers love.
I hope you have a great time!

Brilliant ladies, thank you. Last time we were in York they were too little for ghost walks and the Dungeons. The maze looks good fun too. Not sure DD would be up for being frightened out of her wits each day but it's right up DS's street....

Love the look of the posh cafe with the swings too - we did Betty's last time and it was all very Downton Abbey. Think swings are more our style.

The Chinese (and other food) buffet restaurant down by the river... Had a chocolate fountain after 6 pm!

I will say re: the Halloween maze that it is definitely NOT for the faint hearted!! I've known several people have to leave part way through and indeed one teenager who had to give up his seasonal job there because he couldn't sleep! 🤣

The Chocolate Story is great. A fun couple of hours.

There are a few Harry Potter shops in York and The Shop That Must Not Be Named is the most popular as it’s usually the one with the longest queue. The Potions Cauldron is my favourite though.
The maze mentioned above is a bit out of the city centre and probably only feasible if you have a car.
I’d also recommend climbing the Minster.
