So I trialled using my big blusher brush and loved the effect but I really ought to buy a proper foundation brush. Can you recommend one ?

You should ask to get this moved to style and beauty op

Do you like sponges? The beauty blender is my go-to

If I have to use a brush, I have a few options. MAC 190 is very easy to use, but the stippling range is the most popular and provides the best results (apparently - I tend to use sponges so haven’t compared!) MAC 187 for light coverage; MAC 188 for full coverage. Makeup artists always recommend these 2.

weird….Mac have discounted some of their brushes by 50%! Wonder if they’re discontinuing them??

Definitely snap them up if you can!

I like the Zoeve brushes. Good quality, good prices.

My favourite is the Bobbi Brown full coverage face brush, but it’s a bit on the pricy side. Real Techniques do a good one too which is more affordable.
