Booking UK Camping

Hi all,

I am carrying out some research around camping/caravan holidays in the UK and wondered if you would be so kind to answer some questions.

Which websites do you use to find/compare & book your UK based camping/caravanning holidays?

Do you prefer to book online or call the campsite?

Who do you normally holiday with? As a couple, family, group of friends?

What is your biggest issue when trying to find a campsite/book?

I'll answer.

I occasionally use pitch up. I usually scroll Google or Google maps.

I don't have any issues. It's always trouble free and I find what I want.
I prefer to book online but one place I go is telephone only.

Usually our family only, occasionally we'll camp with more of our family. Not friends.

We usually use Cool Camping, or go with friends' recommendations. Prefer to book online. Camping is usually with friends; but a holiday cottage would usually be with family. Can't think of any particular issues, apart from camping becoming so popular over the last few years that you have to book early for the nicest sites, so it's hard to do a spontaneous camping weekend.

I use pitch up and occasionally camping and caravanning club, despite being a C&C member I find it harder to book as you have to phone most of the camp sites, pitch up is much easier.

I prefer to book online.

We holiday as a family (me and 2 teens).

Biggest issues when booking is pitch size as some sites ask for the size of my van + awning and I have no idea what size it is 🤣, I often have to guess and hope the pitch isn’t too small when we arrive. Also find it annoying that you have to pay extra for a awning (which attaches to our Campervan) when we would have the same size pitch if we didn’t have the awning.

@Lovemusic33 it’s so annoying when they do that. Especially when you’ve already laid for the number of people.
Of course 5 people and a dog can’t fit into a t2 (well they can but blimey it’s a squeeze!).

We generally use pitch up. The issue is that there are a fair amount of campsites not on any websites. I usually search campsites in the area we want to go to and book online. I can’t be arsed to call.

One big thing we look for is policy on open hires. We have a fire pit (and a dodgy washing machine drum which comes out for festivals) but it’s often not allowed or there is a min highly so keep a look out for those.
Also, look for spacious pitches. You don’t want to hear your neighbours.
