Conwy - is it horrid?

Looking at North Wales for me and the dc this year. Often went as a child and stayed in Betws-y-coed and other more remote places. DP seemed to avoid the coast like the plague. Now places in Conwy are coming up the cheapest but is it a nice place to stay? Google says Snowdonia is about 30 mins away and I would love to be at the coast. Cottages themselves look lovely and affordable, but is there some awful stuff I don't know about this area?

Nothing horrible around there as far as I know. Just not gentrified. But that can be a bonus!

Conwy is a nice place. Great castle, interesting shops, cafés etc.

Llandudno is a lovely coastal town too. Very well-kept traditional Victorian resort, but with a good choice of modern attractions and restaurants.

Conwy is lovely! The castle is amazing.

Conwy is lovely, but for a holiday I would choose Llandudno. Avoid Colwyn Bay.

Thanks all - sounds good. I think it may have been Colwyn Bay that was in my head as a place to avoid. I think we'll go ahead.

I like Conwy. We had a lovely short break a couple of years ago staying at The Quay Hotel.

Horrid? Not in the slightest. It has a castle, a prom, shops and cafes. Some nice restaurants and nice ice cream. There is not tons to do there once you've done all that, but you're half an hour from Anglesey beaches and Snowdonia mountains so it's a good base.

Conwy is very small though and often feels packed in with tourists.

We had a holiday in Colwyn Bay when DD was little. It was a bit run down then, and I have heard it has become more so. However, we visited loads of lovely places while we were there. There is a zoo at Colwyn Bay, we did Llandudno one day, Cony another day, did the FFestiniog railway and visited Bodnant Gardens.

Conwy is just great, its a sweet little town and a great base for the rest of Snowdonia and Angelsey.

Its a hidden gem and an excellent base. Short drive from some excellent places, Fairy glen, Llandudno, you could even travel up to Towyn for a bit of Tacky Old-fashioned Seaside, funfair etc

Enocks at Llandudno junction is excellent for Fish and Chips

Aber falls is fantastic only 30 mins drive
