Toddler doesn’t Sleep

My 20 month old wakes continuously during the night, she goes down ok 7pm-7.30pm after a bottle sat on me but wakes within 2hrs of going to sleep and then every 40 mins thereafter. She hasn’t slept through in over a year!

Any suggestions to help her (and me) get some sleep.

Been there with all three of mine. Some things that helped

  1. Time. They all grow out of it
  2. Falling asleep independently in bed. Although I did sit in the room.
  3. For habitual waking, try stirring them 20 minutes before they normally wake, for a few nights. It sounds counter intuitive but it resets their sleep cycle and can break the habit.
  4. Loads of exercise at this age
  5. Try to reduce what you do to resettle her. No words, no milk, minimal touch. I still have problems with my 2yo being up once a night but I can carry her back to bed, lie her down and leave in 10 seconds.
  6. If all else fails, put a cot or mattress beside your bed. One of my dc suffers from anxiety and we gave up battling in the end. So glad we did as now his problems are becoming clearer, he needs a lot of reassurance and I’m glad we didn’t push him away. Was fine for another dc though, so trust your instincts.

Good luck!
