Overnight stop near Exeter

We'll be driving from South Wales to St Ives bank holiday weekend - fully expecting it to be a nightmare journey! We've been discussing what's going to be the best time to travel and thinking about doing an overnight stop to break it up.

Exeter is just over half way so somewhere around there would be ideal.

We have a three year old and 8 month old. Somewhere we could take them for a day out would be nice but would be equally happy with somewhere that's just nice for a little wander around. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

We’ve broken the journey with a day at Crealy Theme Park. You can stay at Crealy itself but they have a minimum night stay.

Exmouth if you don't mind a little detour

Surely that's only a 5 hour journey at most??

I Broke my journey to Cornwall in Wells. It's a lovely little city.

I agree with Exmouth. Plenty of sandy beach for the dc's to stretch their legs / crawl on.

Taunton is a lovely town. There are premier inns and holiday inns close to the motorway and I’d suggest Hestercombe as a place to visit. Lovely food in the cafe. You will need to book a slot.
