I am a bit excited- have wanted to go for years, Europe holiday cancelled so made last minute booking. We have a few days in Fort William and a few in Peebles.

No idea what we are going to do. Packing today and finishing off bits of work.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Ooh, sounds great. If you like cycling, Peebles has some great routes around and about, and if you head to Glentress near Innerleithen there’s a mountain biking centre. Obvs there’s Ben Nevis near Fort William - do as little or as much of it as you want (with the right kit!) Enjoy your hols!

Tadpolesandfroglets · 31/07/2020 09:22

From Fort William you can drive up towards Mallaig. The east coast is beautiful and lots of nice beaches.

emmathedilemma · 31/07/2020 12:07

hiking and biking!
A lot of tourist attractions are still closed in Scotland. The walk highlands website has good routes for all over scotland.

westcoastrailways.co.uk/jacobite/steam-train-trip
The Jacobite (Harry Potter film) train is running again, or it's not far from Fort William to drive up to the visitor centre and walk to see it go over the Viaduct. It usually gets packed out when there's a train due but with the absence of overseas visitors it might not be too bad at the moment.

TheCanyon · 31/07/2020 12:14

Tbh there's feck all to do atm in peebles except biking/walking. Where you staying?

RoseDog · 31/07/2020 12:15

Bring a warm water proof coat and midgie repellent!

thegasp · 31/07/2020 12:18

Tadpoles that's the west coast Wink

Glenfinnan viaduct
Glencoe
Camusdarach beach
A walk along the canal with all the locks

emmathedilemma · 31/07/2020 14:03

A walk along the canal with all the locks.....that would be Neptune's Staircase

icedaisy · 31/07/2020 14:05

I think go ape at glentress is open. Great zip wire.

KedsAndTubeSocks · 31/07/2020 14:05

Pack jumpers

Nishky · 31/07/2020 14:13

Thanks all, not sure where we are staying in Peebles. I was planning on lots of walking! to be honest even if nothing is open, resting and relaxing sounds fabulous.

Will check back in this thread tomorrow and look at some of the ideas

Climb Ben Nevis...

TheCanyon · 31/07/2020 14:44

@Nishky The park and the hydro have their activities free atm, good if you've got dc to entertain.

Nishky · 31/07/2020 14:53

@TheCanyon thanks, have two teenagers so will look into that.

@Hellohah- can I just admire its beauty?

Hellohah · 31/07/2020 15:04

@Nishky ... it really is worth the climb but you can just admire it's beauty :)

TheCanyon · 31/07/2020 22:03

But don't do it still half drunk in 3/4 slip on shoes. I guarantee it won't work.

NCTDN · 31/07/2020 22:55

I'm going to Scotland too WinkWas hoping for some ideas of places to go, but we're staying near Glasgow.

Merename · 31/07/2020 22:58

Definitely Glencoe for scenery and hillwalking. Doable from Glasgow too and drive up is stunning.

Tadpolesandfroglets · 01/08/2020 07:00

i meant the west coast. Mallaig is on the west, it’s where the Harry Potter steamer ends and you can get ferry to Skye.

Serin · 01/08/2020 19:29

Fort William is a great little place, quite down to earth and friendly.
There are a few climbing centres and mountain biking coursdes if that is your thing.
If you are lucky you can see otters swimming in the sea right beside the main car park.

anicebag · 01/08/2020 19:31

There’s a walk with llamas walk in Peebles. Book ahead

Nishky · 04/08/2020 18:11

@anicebag thanks for the suggestion - sadly they were not doing walks while we are here but they are at the end of August if anyone is visiting this area then

@Tadpolesandfroglets we had a day in Mallaig- it was beautiful as was the drive up there

We stayed in Glenfinnan and walked up to the viaduct and saw the train. We also had a boat trip on the Loch

Now in Peebles- we are at the hydro so will use the indoor facilities tomorrow then we hope to go horse riding, have a day in Edinburgh and our week in Scotland will be done.

We have had a lovely time and can’t wait to come again- next time I want to do an island hopping trip!
