B&B in Southampton for one night in half term - any ideas?

I need to pick my MIL up from her cruise in Southampton and as we are travelling a fair distance would like to stay over the night before and therefore have a chance to see a bit of the area with the children: ds(4) and dd(2). Can anyone recommend somewhere to stop the night - thick walls would be good as both children are early risers!

Hi Immiej - there are lots of chain hotels here like novotel, travel lodge and stuff like that which might be easier with children. I know a few of the B&Bs but you'd have to be careful you didn't end up in one that caters mostly for contrcators or DSS clients. If you want a nice but homely one I could give you some details (friends of mine!) - can you CAT me and I'll look them up!

Immie my mum lives not far from there, just outside Winchester, and I know she has thought of doing some b&b at some point. If you are interested CAT me and I will ask her if she's up for it, she lives in a beautiful cottage in a idyllic village and is a superb cook, plus adores children!

WARNING : Do NOT stay in the travel lodge in Southampton under any circumstances. We had my Xmas work do at the Southhampton De Vere last year and all booked to stay at the Travel Lodge. The place was full of asylum seekers. Gangs of kids everywhere and constantly riding up and down in the lift, washing (clean and dirty) everywhere, groups of men hanging out in the car park all night, fag ends everywhere, people smoking everywhere. It was filthy !!

OMG - thanks dawnie - definitely won't be nipping down there for a Christmas do then!!!

I've got a feeling that it's been turned into a block of flats now grumpy...
No - hang on - (can you hear my brain ticking?) it's a travel lodge now

Thanks for the tip about the Travel Lodge dawnie - I will certainly make sure I avoid that one. CountessDracula - your Mums sounds very appealing and very idealic but I think on this ocassion I want to stay centrally in Southampton. Thanks again for all your help.
