What are your favourite things to see or do in Bakewell? Covid-19 aside.

Whether it be recommendations for shops/cafes/walks, I'd love to hear your favourite things.

Thanks!

It's so small you can see and do everything. There's a bloody good chip shop. Obviously a traditional Bakewell tart (or 27) is a must. If you have a car and are there for longer you'll be wanting to go to Chatsworth, Matlock etc.

TheQueef · 26/07/2020 13:43

Eat the tart.
Don't fall for the iced Mr Kipling type eat a real Bakewell tart, all of it, to yourself.

The Monsal Trail and Haddon Hall
Monsal Head Hotel
Thorn ridge brewery
Juniper pizza
Chatsworth farm shop cafe

Chatsworth farm shop and fill your freezer! The butchery bit is better than Harrods. Smile

FadedRed · 26/07/2020 15:50

Thanks for your posts.Smile

@MorningManiacMusic which chip shop? Or is there only one?

Will definitely get a Bakewell pudding & no danger of sharing it!

We were completely underwhelmed by the Bakewell puddings, and gobsmacked by the price.
Make Bakewell a very quick stop, then head to Matlock and the Heights of Abraham. This was DS7s highlight of our Alton Towers mini break! Hmm

Grumpbum123 · 26/07/2020 16:23

Eat the pudding
Wander around and think what’s here and why am I here
Go to heights of Abraham

MarshmallowsOnToast · 26/07/2020 16:23

Is the Chatsworth Estate Farm Shop actually within the gardens/house?

Would like to stop in but you need to pre book a ticket to enter the gardens & house (and even the car park) at the moment. It's about £40 so obviously not worth it just to visit the shop.

My vote for Heights of Abraham 👍

BacklashStarts · 26/07/2020 16:25

No the farm shop is separate

BiggerBoat1 · 26/07/2020 16:26

Bakewell puddings are to die for!! And you can post one to a friend!

Excellent fish and chips and a nice walk by the river.

Love Bakewell!

While you're in the area, you have to visit Chatsworth (and its amazing farm shop) and if you fancy going a bit further there's a lovely open air pool at Hathersage.

Chosennone · 26/07/2020 16:27

Walk along the river and look at the love lock bridge. Both chips shops are good. Have a drink in one of the beer gardens. Walk/ drive over to Chatsworth, gorgeous grounds and river. If you have DC farknpark and play ground.

Not far away is Hathersage with a beautiful outdoor pool, pre book tickets online in advance. Matlock and Matlock bath near by. Mad Hatters for Freak Shakes 😋

MarshmallowsOnToast · 26/07/2020 16:39

@Chosennone

Wow been to Matlock loads of times but never seen Mad Hatters before. 😋

Thanks for suggesting
